(j) Verbal Nouns, Infinitive, Gerund. The so-called Infinitive Mood to go, to see, to hear is really a verbal noun. The other verbal noun in English is called the Gerund, and ends in ing—going, seeing, hearing. Verbal nouns resemble verbs in that they can have a subject and an object, tenses and voices: they resemble a noun in that they themselves can be the subject or object of another verb.
